This is a very artistic necklace, full of emotion and texture. The focal is a hand painted shell pendant by a Russian artist. It is a miniature reproduction of Gustav Klimt’s painting ” Freya’s Golden Tears”. The black lip shell shows a lot of iridescence when moved in the light. A copper and red combination, passionate and elegant.

This focal is a miniature oil painting on shell by a very talented artist from Fedoskino, an art school outside Moskow. The technique to make this mini works of art is quite elaborate, being painted in layers of different opacity and allowing the iridescence of the shell to come through when the light hits it. It is all protected by a few layers of shiny varnish which I believe it's cured in an oven.
This necklace is built around a hand painted lacquered shell pendant featuring a wonderful reproduction of Gustav Klimt painting ” Freya’s Tears”. The colour scheme is rich with hues of bronze, copper, peach and dark red. Her soft face is surrounded with an arrangement of amber glass beads like a crown and her mouth is partially hidden behind a row of soft red fur. The pendant is adorned with a sparkling gold sandstone and a handmade cold porcelain flower. A cluster of Swarovski pearls held together with a very detailed flower bead cap, form a bud hanging under the pendant as a continuation of her tears. The stone is a man-made sunstone.
Freya was a goddess in Norse mythology? Wife to Odin, she was fond of beauty and material possessions and she brought the art of magic to the Gods. But I do not know why she is shedding golden tear.
Gustav Klimt was an Austrian symbolist painter (1862-1918). He is known for paintings of the female body and his "Golden phase" when he included gold leaf in his paintings. He was a secluded person, devoted to his art, spending a lot of time comfortable at home. Unlike many other masters, he was successful and well known in his lifetime.

Care & Maintenance | Do not let perfume or cosmetics come in direct contact with the beads and components. While I choose my material carefully and I try to provide the best quality, if not properly taken care of, all beads will change or lose colour or shine in time if exposed to chemicals. Handle the fragile components with care especially the clasp area. Be gentle! Because I use lots of fragile components made of clay or porcelain, I advise to keep the jewellery in their own boxes out of harm's way. I do consider repairs, but subject to certain conditions.
